The Reel Retro Cinema column began running on 13thDimension.com in 2015 and has featured over 100 installments. In it, I examine a vintage movie that has some connection to the world of comic books—either based on a comic (Batman, Swamp Thing), about the world of comics (How To Murder Your Wife, The Hand), or had a particularly notable comic book adaptation (Friday Foster, Dr. No).
TwoMorrows’ Back Issue! focuses on comic book history from the Bronze Age and beyond. I have written numerous articles for the magazine, examining comics, toys, records, and other related ephemera. Click the graphic to access a PDF of the complete article.
Hey Kids, Comics!
Published in 2011, Hey Kids, Comics!: True Life Tales From The Spinner Rack was an anthology of authors, writers, artists, and noted comic book fans such as Alan Brennert, J.M. DeMatteis, and Sholly Fisch about a transformative experience they had with the four-color medium. Also produced as an audio book.
Ace Kilroy
Co-created with artist Dan O’Connor, Ace Kilroy was a daily (six b/w dailies and a “Color Sunday”) webcomic. It harkens back to the classic adventure strips of the 1930s and 1940s, about an adventurer drafted by the U.S. Government during WWII to hunt down the world’s most dangerous monsters—wolf men, vampires, and the undead. In its first year, I won a Philadelphia Geek Award for Comic Book Writer of the Year.
